M20 (NGC 6514) (emission and reflection nebula)

It is a large luminous cloud of ionized hydrogen in the constellation Sagittarius. The dust lanes radiating from thecentre appearto divide it into three parts, given it the name "Trifid Nebula". Distance is between 2282-2608 light years from Earth.

M22 (NGC 6656) (globular cluster)

Located in the constellation Satittarius, this globular cluster is about 10,106 light years from Earth

M42 (NGC 1976) (emission nebula)

The Orion Nebula is arguably the most famous nebula of all. This luminous and exciting object occupies much of the constellation Orion and lies at a dsitanceof about 1300 light years from Earth. It is an important stellar birthplace; some of the stars are believed to be less than100,000 years old..

M51 (NGC 5194) (galaxy)

The Whirlpool Galaxy actalluy consists of two galaxies, with the smaller high-speed interloper stripping material from the larger spiral galaxy due to its gravitational force as its passes by. M51 is very far away: About 10 million lights years from Earth.

M63 (galaxy)

A galaxy at the tipof the tail of the constellation Ursa Major (the Great Bear). It is also very far away: Estmiated distance= 24.12 million light years fron Earth.

M27 (NGC 6853) (planetary nebula)

Called the Dumbbell Nebula because it appears shaped like one especailly when photos are short or insensitive enough to not pick up all of the surrounding gases. M27 is the brightest planetary nebula of the northern sky. Distance estimates range widely from 489-978 light years from Earth. Some estimate that M27 was born as l.ittle as 3000-4000 years ago; other estimates range to 45,000 years..

M13 (NGC 6205) (globular cluster)

M13 is the most famous globular cluster in the northern skies, as well as one of the most beautiful objects. It is the largest globular cluster north of the celestial equator. It is estimated to contain about 500,000 stars.

M8 (NGC 6523) (emission nebula)

Called the Lagoon Nebula, it is the most prominent emisssion nebula in the summer Milky Way (much more so than M20, for example). A close examination reveals two main sections separated by a dust lane, which gave M8 its name. Is is a giant stellar birthplace. Distacne estiamtes for M20 are the same as for M8 (about 2282-2608 light years).

M33 (NGC 598) (galaxy)

A spiral galaxy that that acidentally showed up in one of my pictures one night

M57 (NGC 6720) (planetary nebula)

THe Ring Nebula in Lyra is the best known of the planetary nebula, although its small size makes it less prominent than others. The 14.8 magnitude central star is clearly obserable only in large scopes. Distance estimates range from 2021-2543 light years from Earth.
